We were briefed to take an originally designed Scott Brownrigg building from 1985 and provide conceptual options to redevelop it for the 2018 market. Key requirements were to re-brand and maximize the existing building. Our selected proposal added 25% NIA to the footprint and featured an entirely new façade, interior and 5th floor.
It was important for us to retain the building’s original design integrity. By stripping it back to its frame and bringing the original ‘out-board’ external column structure inside (partially on the first floor and fully on the remaining floors) we were able to create cantilevered floor plates, a new entrance and a double height reception. By redeveloping a former inner courtyard, we have created a full height glazed atrium with a feature light wall.
Our BREEAM ‘Excellent’, hi specification building incorporates a new fifth floor and terrace with LED lighting, featuring an over sail ‘floating’ roof. Electric blue blade details add pace to the new double height reception area. The internal central atrium features a lit internal elevation.
We provided parking for 61 cars in the basement car park, together with 60 secure cycle spaces, 60 lockers, and new shower and changing facilities. A connection to Thamesway (the Woking CCHP network) supports the town’s green aspirations.
