The Brief

Crown Architecture, D.P.C. were commissioned to design the first of three hospitality projects for New Jersey’s largest developer, Mack-Cali. Piggyback Bar sits on the ground level of an atrium at the waterfront Harborside complex in Jersey City. Our challenge was to create an atmosphere trendy and dynamic enough to draw and retain patrons through a corridor mainly functioning as a lobby to multiple corporate offices.

Concept

Collaborating with local graffiti artists to design murals, splashes of color were the driving theme in creating bold and dramatic statements. A seventy foot mural of an old subway train greets customers at the entrance, and subway map table tops complement the primary-color metal chairs.

Features

Situated on the riverfront, next to a new ferry stop, an exterior curtain wall frames the view of Manhattan’s skyline for the bar’s guests. The bar features a private dining room, an outdoor seating, sports bar and a main dining area.
