Faced with a long-term strategic need for a facility that is capable of exploiting emerging technologies at pace, we were appointed to design a National Maritime Systems Centre that will spearhead technological advances including autonomy, intelligent systems and big data.
Our intent was to create a world leading testing facility to consolidate QinetiQ and the Solent’s position within the sector. Briefed to attract the next generation of talent, the contemporary open plan space provides a modern working environment with views over Portsdown Harbour and Winchesters’ rolling hills.

The main entrance to the building rises up as you approach from the road, seeming to peel up and away from the hillside to reveal the entrance reception.
The building design integrates highly engineered areas, demanding telecommunication routes and storage facilities, with commercial office space and VIP areas that represent QinetiQ at the highest level.
