The Moorside project aims to develop a new generation nuclear power station of up to 3.8 gigawatts gross capacity, generating clean, low carbon electricity from a sustainable source equivalent to 7 per cent of the UK’s electricity requirements.
Our architectural vision for Moorside demonstrates an aesthetic appeal and functional clarity. This ensures that the visual impact of the project avoids the often ‘ad hoc’ layout that can occur with large infrastructure developments. We envisioned a sustainable development with multi- modal movement of operational staff, construction workers and materials intended to be by rail, sea and electric vehicles.
As the lifespan of a nuclear power station may last a century, the impact of technology on its real estate may be transformational. We have considered future scenarios characterised by increasingly automated processes including greater use of robots in day-to-day operations while promoting workplace wellbeing and community engagement in science and nature.
