The Brief

Meridian Water Station is a new station in London Borough of Enfield. It forms an integral part of a regeneration programme. Our brief was to enhance proposals by others to obtain CABE and planning approvals and to develop designs through Network Rail GRIP process to completion.

Concept

Well-planned spaces and efficient engineering help customers flow through stations, decreasing journey times and helping to deal with ever increasing demand. We ‘railified’ earlier proposals by others, balancing engineering with aesthetic style and introducing clarity, attention to detail and the thoughtful application of a materials palette.

Features

A dramatic floating roof and flanking campanile features act as a beacon in the landscape. The station allows step-free access and a 24-hour public right of way over the operational railway while making passive provision for Crossrail 2. Quality and programme benefits were to be delivered through offsite fabrication. Attention to detail in the choice and use of materials applied to large-scale pre-fabricated structural elements resulted in achieving design quality within a challenging programme and budget constraints.
