Down Street Mews
We were tasked to redevelop a former annex building of the Cavalry and Guards’ Club to provide two new town-houses. Located on a restricted site within a mews in Mayfair near to Green Park, our design needed to respond sensitively to the surrounding historic fabric and conservation area.
Two translucent, glowing forms amongst the dense and complex urban context identify the buildings. This strikingly contemporary architectural response was inspired by the Modernist glass house – La Maison de Verre in Paris.
The composition of the façade is an interpretation of Japanese sliding screens, with the glazing transforming the scheme from a singular glowing element by day, to a luminescent box as evening falls.
The buildings deliver high-energy performance with a double skin glass façade, green roof, ground source heat pumps and generous floor to ceiling heights.
The glass mansion provides luxurious living space across four levels, and an additional three basement levels that include a cinema, private spa and swimming pool. There is also a spacious four-car garage and 226 square-foot garden patio at ground level together with a 1,251 square-foot roof garden.
