This edition explores much-needed industry changes to neurodiversity and inclusion, and some of the less understood areas of design development that need to be the agenda.

Every step taken that benefits a specific part of society inevitably also improves the built environment for a much wider audience too. Good design can make the difference between a space that is tolerated, and one that is found comforting or exhilarating, calm or stimulating.

This issue of iA explores the role of designers in contributing to the inclusive agenda, and the potential positive impact on our mental wellbeing and capacity for thought, emotion and behaviour.
