Two Scott Brownrigg schemes have been shortlisted for this year's Education Estates Awards.

Both UTC Swindon and Hitchin Centre at North Hertfordshire College have been shortlisted in the Innovation in Delivering Value category and also for Project of the Year.

The scheme at North Hertfordshire College revives the Hitchin centre through the refurbishment of three teaching accommodation blocks and the creation of a new internal ‘Hub’ space, encouraging greater connectivity between the disciplines, whilst providing an accessible, high quality student facility.

The state-of-the-art £10 million UTC Swindon site is home to what Prime Minister David Cameron described as a “remarkable school” whilst Nick Gibb MP, Minister of State for School Reform, called it “one of the best school buildings” he has ever seen. Located on Swindon’s historic (former) Railway Village, the stunning architecture includes light-filled workshops and classrooms designed to imitate real life workplaces.

The Education Estates Awards recognise excellence in the education built environment and both shortlistings reflect the successes that the practice is experiencing in pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation within the education sector.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony which takes place on 10 November 2015 at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.
