Two of Scott Brownrigg’s international projects have been shortlisted for the prestigious World Architecture Festival 2019 (WAF). Mount Ngongotatha Masterplan in Rotorua and Istanbul Airport in Turkey are shortlisted alongside an international selection of finalists, with shortlisted entries from over 70 countries. This accolade reflects our identity as an international design practice, where we are recognised globally within the top 100.

The World Architecture Festival is dedicated to celebrating, sharing and inspiring outstanding architecture. It is the only architecture event where keynote talks from the industry’s most influential figures sit alongside live judging presentations from over 500 award finalists plus global networking and an international product exhibition.

The Mount Ngongotatha Masterplan in New Zealand is shortlisted in Future Project: Masterplanning alongside a global list of schemes from India, Brazil, China, Germany and the UK, among others. The cultural tourism masterplan in Rotorua reaches out to the three most predominant ‘touchstones’ in Māori culture – Mokoia island, the tribal meeting house and Te Puia (a geo-thermal/Māori visitor centre). The masterplan includes a contemporary Māori arts centre and theatre, a visitor centre, retail, an activity centre, two hotels, lodges, a Māori innovation centre and a cultural ‘arts trail’.

Istanbul Airport is shortlisted in Completed Buildings: Transport following a joint submission by the international team of architects Scott Brownrigg, Grimshaw, Nordic-Office of Architecture, and Haptic Architects. It has competition from schemes in China, Taiwan, Australia, Philippines and Singapore. The airport, which became operational earlier this year, is the world’s largest terminal with a gross area of 1.4 million sq m and an initial capacity of 90 million passengers per year.

The World Architecture Festival 2019 will take place 4-6 December 2019 in Amsterdam. The WAF awards sit at the heart of the festival, the only global awards programme where architects present their completed buildings and future projects live to a panel of internationally renowned judges and delegates from around the world.
