The Virtual Visits series offer a virtual tour of our designs every week. From freshly finished buildings to those not yet complete, the visits are narrated by the architects involved and offer a unique insight into the brief, concept and design features.
Design for togetherness: This week we take a look around the concept design for The Social Contact Pod. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Scott Brownrigg worked with CLT experts, Ramboll, and M&E and sustainability specialists, Hoare Lea, to design a Pod that allows families to spend valuable time with loved ones without the risk of contamination.
Scott Brownrigg Associate Felicity Meares and Architect Thijs Karrenbeld welcome Hoare Lea’s Ed Lucas to show you around the low-cost, CLT pod that can be easily transported on the back of a standard truck, making installation at the entrance to a care home, carpark or garden easy and ready for immediate use.
Scott Brownrigg’s Design Research Unit have diverted all research efforts to explore how to limit the spread and impact of future epidemics. As part of this, The Social Contact Pod recognizes that the most vulnerable in our society have the greatest need to be protected from the Covid-19 virus.
