Scott Brownrigg has been invited, together with Niall McLaughlin Architects, to take part in an RIBA international design competition for the London School of Economics. The practice was selected as part of a shortlist of six, chosen from 87 entries. 

The project is to redevelop 44 Lincolns Inn Fields with a new £100m building for LSE students and academics addressing the historic square of Lincolns Inn Fields in central London. It will be named the Paul Marshall Building on completion and will include an institute for philanthropy and social entrepreneurship, academic and teaching space, student sports facilities and a crèche.

LSE is the world’s leading academic institution for social and political science founded in 1895, and Paul Marshall is a major benefactor of the School. The design and civic qualities of the new building will enhance both local and international perceptions of LSE and transform the identity of the south side of Lincoln’s Inn Fields, one of London’s oldest and most emblematic landscaped squares.

As lead consultant, Scott Brownrigg will be working in a design collaboration for the competition and potentially the whole project with Niall McLaughlin Architects, AKT II structural engineers, Chapman BDSP environmental engineers, Gillespies landscape architects and Mott MacDonald supporting specialist engineering.

Other architectural practices invited to compete are Herzog & De Meuron, David Chipperfield Architects, Amanda Levette Architects, Diller Scoffidio and Renfro with Penoyre & Prasad and Grafton Architects.
