Scott Brownrigg is delighted to be Partnering this year’s inaugural Education Buildings Wales Exhibition and Conference on 18 – 19 June at Cardiff University. Education Buildings Wales focuses on the funding, design, build, management and maintenance of schools, colleges and universities across Wales. The 2-day event will bring the Welsh education built environment and policy professionals together from early years, schools, colleges and universities. Scott Brownrigg as part of the Advisory Group has been instrumental in driving and formulating the agenda for the conference.
During the 2 days Board Director Neil MacOmish will be exploring the Value of Good Design at a session being Chaired by Professor Wayne Forster from the Welsh School of Architecture. Whilst Scott Brownrigg architect and passivehaus expert Simon Hatherley will Chair the panel discussion on Sustainable Buildings and present on “Passivehaus as a Means of Addressing the Performance Gap”.

Neil leads the practice’s award-winning Cardiff Studio, which this year celebrates its 10 year anniversary. Having graduated from The Welsh School of Architecture (WSA) at Cardiff University, Neil continued his research education at The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London in Space Syntax Theory. His current PhD doctorate studies “The City and Memory; asymmetric oscillation” in the field of Creative Practice. His projects include Coleg Cymunedol y Dderwen in Bridgend, winner of the BREEAM Education Award 2013 and the first BREEAM Outstanding school of its type within the UK, the Museum of Military Medicine shortlisted for a WAF Future Award, Cardiff Pointe, the winner of the Inside Housing Best Urban Residential Development Award; the International Sports Village and Cardiff’s new Science Centre.
Simon has a strong interest in sustainable building design and in 2010 began a research project to develop ‘a best practice model for low carbon dwellings in rural areas of Wales’. His research examined a number of issues in low carbon design including adapting to future climate scenarios, techniques for thermal modelling and the application of carbon reduction legislation on real world project. In addition to this research Simon has an MSc in sustainable Building Design, has worked on a number of BREEAM Excellent Projects and has recently completed a course in Passivhaus design.
As well as speaking and exhibiting at the conference, Scott Brownrigg will be co-hosting an education focused networking drinks event on the evening of the 18 June with Gleeds at the Park Plaza, Cardiff.
