Scott Brownrigg has supported The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust since 2010 as part of its commitment to supporting the next generation of architects and in encouraging and providing guidance for those young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who want to pursue a career in architecture to fulfil their goals.

Scott Brownrigg CEO, Darren Comber -

“We are enormously proud to have supported the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust over the last six years as part of its Building Futures Programme”

The Practice assists the Trust in selecting its yearly bursary candidates through a rigorous programme of presentations, portfolio reviews and interviews, whilst paid internships and work placements provide students with first-hand experience of life within our busy architectural studio. The Practice’s mentoring programmes and coaching on interview techniques and CV preparation helps to provide students with confidence in their skills and ability.

Annually Scott Brownrigg hosts a Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust Bursary Scholar Exhibition at its Covent Garden Head Office. The exhibition helps to raise the profile of the Trust’s work as well as showcases the work of the Bursary Scholars who have benefited from the Trusts support. In late 2016 it hosted the sixth exhibition entitled ‘Building Commo-unities’. The exhibition commemorated the first anniversary of the Trusts highly successful ‘Building Futures’ programme and explored the role of community in architecture. The Scholars work took centre stage and the whole exhibition space intertwined together to make one spectacular installation.

The Trust’s Building Futures Programme aims to enable young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to access a career in architecture. It helps aspiring young architects aged between 16-30 living or studying in London, who might otherwise struggle to access or complete a degree in architecture. During our six year support, the Trust has developed and grown to meet its goal in ensuring that young people, regardless of background, are given equal career opportunities to reach their full potential within the field of architecture. The programmes and movements that are now run by the Trust have been designed to create a measurable influence on the way education promotes equality, diversity and inclusivity.

For the last two years, CEO Darren Comber has been honoured to have chaired the annually held Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust Memorial Lecture at the RIBA.

Every year we continue to be impressed with the level of talent, drive and ambition that the scholars possess.
