The second national Stephen Lawrence Day will be celebrated by Scott Brownrigg on Wednesday 22 April 2020, as we look ahead to another year of support for the charity.
Following the inaugural national day in 2019, this year the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust [SLCT] want to spread a positive message about the part we all play in creating a society in which everyone can flourish. As architects and designers we work with a vision to enrich lives through the built environment.
2020 marks a special landmark in the partnership between Scott Brownrigg and the SLCT: we have supported the charity for 10 years, furthering our commitment to supporting the next generation of architects and in encouraging and providing guidance for those young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who want to pursue a career in architecture.
Each year Scott Brownrigg review the portfolios of candidates for the annual SLCT bursary awards. The Practice assists the Trust in selecting its yearly bursary candidates through a rigorous programme of presentations, portfolio reviews and interviews, whilst paid internships and work placements provide students with first-hand experience of life within our busy architectural studio. Our mentoring programmes and coaching on interview techniques and CV preparation helps to provide students with confidence in their skills and ability.
It is with great pride that we have observed how the SLCT has developed and grown to meet its goal in ensuring that young people, regardless of their background, are given equal career opportunities to reach their full potential within the field of architecture. We look forward to many more Stephen Lawrence Days and the positive messages it brings.
