A soft unveiling event for the newly completed Newcastle Medical Clinic took place on 27 October. As the interior designers behind the scheme, Scott Brownrigg were invited to cut the ribbon at the event, which was attended by Newcastle University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chris Day, and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Medical Sciences) and Prof. David Burn.
Located 1km away from Newcastle University’s medical campus within EduCity, the project converted two new shophouses into a public medical clinic for local community use. It also provides a key learning environment for trainee students. The clinic provides both primary and specialist care facilities with three consultation rooms, two treatment rooms, x-ray room and generous space for the pharmacy, and vaccination and blood-test storage.
The upper floors of the shophouses allow for a meeting of the ‘professional’ and ‘student’ user groups with a mixture of spaces provided to encourage collaboration, informal meetings, knowledge exchange as well as functional presentation and audio visual technology. Feature areas including a large open pantry and terraced seating with more private booth seating promotes discussion and collaboration. The use of bold colours and clever space planning, whereby the space opens up to the balconies at the front, enlivens these floors and allows for maximum daylight penetration.
The project marks another exciting chapter in the growth of our Singapore studio.
