The Science and Innovation Centre at Reckitt Benckiser [RB] in Hull has been awarded the Refurbished/Recycled Workplace Award by the British Council for Offices [BCO] North.

The Award recognises Scott Brownrigg who were commissioned as the fit out interior designer for RB’s KWN Building and Humber Suite as part of the new £105 million Centre. The project ‘captivated’ the judges: “To reinvent how people interact and innovate is the mark of a truly great workspace” they found.

The Centre comprises of state-of-the-art offices, R&D facilities, open plan working and collaborative areas, housing the talent and passion to drive forward the latest discoveries in consumer health. It is RB’s largest healthcare, research and development centres, home to over 800 employees.

Our interior design team worked with the two existing historical buildings – office building KWN and the Humber Suite. We grounded the design for the KWN Building in four key ideas: Reaching Out; Building Relationships; Uniquely RB; Movement and Flexibility. Collaborating with Ryder Architects, the Humber Suite has been restored as a new meeting suite; its position celebrates the history of the company.

Ryder Architects created the bespoke high-spec R&D facility, connecting it to the historic KWN and Humber Suite via an ‘Innovation Pathway’ linking all three buildings.

The resulting Centre embeds cutting-edge technology within an old building shell that is now well positioned and sufficiently technologically advanced to propel RB towards its future aims and goals.

The BCO North Awards were announced on Wednesday 21 October, as part of the BCO’s first virtual awards festival that runs from Monday 19 to Friday 23 October.
