Director of Practice Helen Taylor has been announced as a new Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects [RIBA]. It recognises her commitment to sustainability, diversity and inclusive design at Scott Brownrigg and beyond.
At the practice, Helen is responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of programmes to maintain and enhance the high levels of technical competence and expertise across the whole practice, to ensure legal and best practice compliance.
This year, Helen joins her fellow cohort of RIBA fellows, 40% of whom are women. On receiving this news, Helen says:
“I have always found being involved in the RIBA fantastically rewarding and have been honoured to have led and contributed to a number of initiatives and groups over the years. Applying for fellowship feels like a wonderful way to recognise the value, enjoyment and friends I have gained from involvement in an institution that loves and celebrates architecture and architects.”
Specialising in Education design for many years, Helen focuses on Early Years, Primary and Special Schools, Academies and University Technical Colleges. Her work leading the innovative SHaW Futures Academy project has led to a book, authored and edited by herself and Sharon Wright, Senior Associate at the-learning-crowd. ‘Urban Schools: Designing for high density’ will be published by the RIBA Publishing in the New Year.
Helen has represented Scott Brownrigg in her collaboration with leading industry bodies. She was a founding member and co-chair of Architects for Change, the RIBA’s Equality & Diversity Forum and Convenor of the RIBA Schools Client Forum. Helen also played a significant role in the establishment of Modern Apprenticeships in Architecture, for which Scott Brownrigg are a Trailblazer practice, leading the development of the Modern Apprenticeship Standard for the Architecture industry. Helen has recently joined the Board of the RIBA.
The new Fellows will be formally welcomed to their new role at the RIBA in February 2020.
