New Manhattan retail and residence for hair stylist Chaz Dean completes

The refurbishment and extension of 59 Greenwich Avenue in New York City into a new retail store, salon and private residence for hair stylist Chaz Dean has completed. Delivered by SB+C – our US arm, the scheme sensitively restores and celebrates a four- landmark building while creating a new high-end boutique in the heart of Manhattan’s Greenwich Village.

Working closely with the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission and City Planning Commission, we obtained a special permit to modify the use of the second floor for commercial use. In line with permit requirements, we ensured that the building’s historic façades were restored to a first-class condition and that a continuing maintenance program was established post completion.

A new infill extension to the rear of the building has subtly increased the overall footprint, allowing for more commercial space on the first two floors. A new outdoor terrace and useable roof area above offers exceptional views across the city.
